I find refractive surgery to be far and away the most the most gratifying (and at times, the most demanding) part of my entire practice of ophthalmology. Dr. Lusby began specializing in ophthalmology in 1980 and in 1990, developed a specialty interest in refractive surgery, which rapidly became the main focus of his practice. He has been a Medical Director for TLC since 2001. Having been in refractive surgery for so long, he has seen the progression of the field from day one. In fact, he traveled to Shanghai, China to learn the original techniques for performing LASIK. Today the majority of his practice is comprised of Custom LASIK with Intralase, personally performing about 200 cases per month; in 2005 he passed the 30,000 mark.

Dr. Lusby has published numerous medical journal articles on refractive surgery and is called upon as often as monthly to lecture on the local and national levels to his colleagues and fellow doctors on refractive surgery. Since 2005, he has enjoyed being the Adjunct Clinical Professor at SCCO in charge of student education in refractive surgery. He is often called upon to supervise new surgeons as they develop their refractive surgery techniques. “Being in charge of a portion of the education of young doctors really keeps you on your toes.”

Dr. Lusby is a real perfectionist; so much so that, on any given day, nearly 85% of Dr. Lusby’s practice is comprised of referrals from other satisfied patients. “Almost every time I see a new patient, I know that I have cared for their spouse, sibling or friend. As a physician, it is the greatest compliment I can receive, and feel fortunate to be in such a gratifying subspecialty. It never gets old hearing a patient remark on the clarity of their vision and how it has improved their quality of life.”

Dr. Lusby’s outside interests focus mostly on woodworking and sports cars. He also plays the violin, which he began studying at the age of 7. Dr. Lusby and his wife, Jeanee, are parents to Kadee, Patrick, and twins David and Chelsea.

Dr. Loren D. Rude, O.D.

Before joining ClearSight, Dr. Rude worked as Refractive Surgery Clinical Adjunct Professor at Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO). While at SCCO his emphasis was in co-management of laser vision correction (LASIK) with extensive research and lectures to his credit in the field of refractive surgery.

Dr. Rude earned his Doctorate of Optometry from Illinois College of Optometry (ICO). While at ICO, Dr. Rude worked with prominent surgeons from the University of Illinois, Chicago in clinical rotations at West Side VA. His emphasis there was on ocular disease and co-management of surgical cases. While at Surgeons and Eye Consultants, Omega Group; Dr. Rude received the Southwest Contact Lens Society Scholarship for Excellence in cornea and contact lens services. He received his undergraduate degree in biological sciences from the University of California, Irvine.
In addition to overseeing the daily clinical operations of ClearSight, Dr. Rude is committed to helping the staff develop and maintain a network of affiliated optometrists in the community who provide pre-operative and post-operative care to patients undergoing laser vision correction. He is a member of American Optometric Association, California Optometric Association and International Society of Refractive Surgery.
