Will I be awake for the surgery?
Yes, but we will give you mild
sedation. After the surgery, most
people wonder what they were
“all worried about.”
Does it hurt?
The surface of the eye can be made
exquisitely numb with just eye drops.
Otherwise, most people will feel some
pressure during the creation of the flap.
Are the results stable?
The changes in the shape of your
cornea are permanent; however if your
eye changes, your prescription, and
hence, your vision may change.
What if my vision regresses?
You may be eligible for re-treatment;
we find this to be the case in about
2-3% of people. If this is necessary,
we usually know by six months. To
perform the re-treatment, Dr. Lusby
simply lifts the flap, delivers more
laser, replaces the flap and the eye then
heals just like it did initially. In certain
circumstances, the treatment will be
applied to the surface of the flap rather
than lifting it.
Can I go back to wearing glasses or contacts if I need to?
In the rare instance that you need
glasses or contact lenses to achieve
good vision, and you are for some
reason ineligible for more treatment,
glasses or contact lenses should remain
an option.
