Dr. Lusby began specializing in ophthalmology in 1980, and in 1990 he developed a specialty interest in refractive surgery, which rapidly became the main focus of his practice. Having been in refractive surgery for so long, he has seen the progression of the field from the beginning. In fact, he traveled to Shanghai, China to learn the original techniques for performing LASIK. Today the majority of his practice is comprised of CustomLASIK with IntraLase® .  He has personally performed tens of thousands of LASIK procedures and personally performs over 200 procedures per month. In 2007, he received the “America’s Top Ophthalmologists” Award.

Born and raised in Maryland, Dr. Lusby graduated Magna Cum Laude from Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, Maryland.  He graduated from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, California, and interned at Malden Hospital, affiliated with Boston University School of Medicine.

He has published numerous medical journal articles on refractive surgery and is called upon as often as monthly to lecture on the local and national levels to his colleagues and fellow doctors on refractive surgery. Since 2005, he has enjoyed being the Adjunct Clinical Professor at SCCO in charge of student education in refractive surgery. He is often called upon to supervise new surgeons as they develop their refractive surgery techniques. Dr. Lusby states, “Being in charge of a portion of the education of young doctors really keeps you on your toes.”

Dr. Lusby is a real perfectionist; so much so that on any given day,almost all of Dr. Lusby’s practice is comprised of referrals from other doctors or previous satisfied patients. “Almost every time I see a new patient, I know that I have cared for their spouse, sibling or friend. As a physician, it is the greatest compliment I can receive, and feel fortunate to be in such a gratifying sub-specialty. It never gets old hearing a patient remark on the clarity of their vision and how it has improved their quality of life.”
