A recent survey* of doctors who perform laser vision correction surgery revealed that they overwhelmingly rate the Advanced CustomVue Procedure, developed by VISX, as the most effective treatment of its kind available. The survey also reported that doctors in the U.S. choose VISX Technology lasers from Abbott Medical Optics (AMO) more often than all other lasers combined.

The Advanced CustomVue LASIK Procedure is FDA approved to potentially treat
94 percent** of patients eligible for laser vision correction, including people with farsightedness, all forms of astigmatism, and nearsightedness up to 11 diopters of correction. Clinical studies showed the treatment can potentially produce better vision than is possible with glasses or contact lenses. Ninety-one percent of patients tested over several months following treatment said they were as satisfied or more satisfied with their vision than they were when wearing glasses or contact lenses before treatment.

The reason for the procedure’s results lies in the innovative technology used. It begins with the WaveScan WaveFront System that allows Dr. Franklin W. Lusby to take precise measurements of each eye’s imperfections, with precision 25 times greater than standard measurements used for contact lenses or glasses. To minimize any chance for human error, data is digitally transferred to the STAR S4 IR Excimer Laser. The cool laser beam then removes a thin layer of cells from the cornea, reshaping it so that light moving through the eye focuses correctly on the retina. The Advanced CustomVue Procedure also uses proprietary mathematical formulas, Iris Registration technology for aligning the laser, and other special features to create a truly unique treatment, as unique as your fingerprint. VISX, which was acquired by Abbott Medical Optics (AMO) in 2005, was the first company to introduce laser vision correction in 1996.

“This technology represents a truly exciting advance,” says Dr. Franklin W. Lusby, “offering patients a level of precision and individual customization never before possible. We know many people have been waiting for laser vision correction technology to reach the accuracy level now possible with the Advanced CustomVue Procedure. We’re delighted to be able to tell them the wait is over.”
